Because of political and civil unrest in Haiti, this past Saturday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it is offering Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to Haitians who were in the U.S. as of May 21, 2021. DHS estimates there are 100,000 people eligible for the program.

The grant of TPS lasts for an 18-month period of time during which the recipient can get work authorization and avoid deportation. TPS is a renewable designation which means it's likely the benefits will continue for an indefinite period of time.

Any person eligible should take advantage of this opportunity. The enrollment period is limited.
